With all this beautiful weather we are having as gardeners you may find you need to do a bit of watering in the evenings. To ensure we do this in the most sustainable way here are a few water saving tips to help you keep the garden looking great without any water wastage.
Walk around your garden and take a good look. Is anything visibly wilting? Many of our plants might be more drought resistant than we think and may not need to be watered. Plants will let you know when they need water by showing signs of wilting.
Water seedlings. They are more prone to wilting quickly and need a little more care
Water plants in pots and use bigger pots for plants where possible. The bigger the pot the less watering required.
Use grey water, collect the water in the sink that you can and use it around the garden.
Use water from boiling veg etc. when it has cooled and it will water and feed your garden.
Water in the early mornings to avoid the sun evaporating the water.
Water slowly as this will allow the water to sink in better.
Install a water butt in the garden and use rainwater instead of tap water, the plants generally prefer it too!
